Police,JMPD officers monitors the Princess informal settlement in Roodepoort against protests

Police and Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officers are monitoring the Princess informal settlement in Roodepoort on Tuesday morning following a night of violent protesting.

Protesters torched a truck, barricading the Albertina Sisulu Road with burning tyres and rocks on Monday night.

It’s unclear what residents are protesting over.

JMPD’s Wayne Minaar says: “Albert Sisulu Road remains closed this morning due to the violent protests last night. A truck was torched and there’s still a lot of debris and rocks on that road. It’s not safe for motorists to drive past this morning. Motorists will have to use alternative routes.”
